Creating links

1. To create links always use the Link button (Insert link in OpenCms).

As an example, we will type:

Internal Links

1. To create an internal link highlight the text here and press the Link button (Insert link in OpenCms).

2. In the pop up that appears, press the folder icon (Folder icon in OpenCms) to open your website navigation structure. You can now link to any page within your site by clicking the relevant folder and sub-page:

3. In the above example we have opened the contact folder and selected index.html (index.html is the landing page for any folder). By clicking the page name, the link URL updates on the left.

4. Next, use the Target drop down and decide whether the link should open in a New window or in the Same window. In this example (since we are linking to the contacts page within the same site) we select Same window.

5. Next to Title, enter a short description for the link as the alt tag (eg. Contact our team). This appears when mousing over the link (once live) and is useful for search engines.

6. When you are done, press OK. The internal link has now been created. Save and close the page (button-save-and-close) and test the link in the preview screen.

Email Links

1. To create an email link highlight info@mycompany.com and press the Link button (Insert link in OpenCms).

2. In the Link URL field type mailto: followed by the email address. In this example, we are typing mailto:info@mycompany.com. 

3. Next to Target select New window (emails should always pop up in a new window).

4. In the Title field type a description for the link as the alt tag (eg. Email us). This appears when mousing over the link (once live) and is useful for search engines.

5. Press OK. The email link has now been created. Save and close the page (button-save-and-close ) and test the link in the preview screen.

Hint
1. You can add default text that appears in the email pop up. Simply right-click the email link and select Edit Link from the drop down.Editing links in OpenCms

2. A pop up will appear where you can change the email address and set default Message Subject and Message Body text. These will appear when users click on the email link.

External Links

1. To create an external link (to another website) highlight the text partner site and press the Link button    (Insert link in OpenCms).

2. Next to Link URL type or paste the web address. Be sure to include the full link including http://.

3. Next to Target select New window (external links should always pop up in a new window).

4. In the Title field enter a description for the link as the alt tag (eg. Visit our partners). This appears when mousing over the link (once live) and is useful for search engines.

5. Press OK. You can now save and close the page (button-save-and-close ) and test the link in the preview screen.

Editing links

1. To edit links simply right-click the link text and select Edit Link from the drop down menu.

Removing links

1. To remove links simply right-click the link text and select Remove Link from the drop down.

2. You can also remove links by clicking the Remove Link button (Remove links in Opencms ) n the editor.
